WHO IS TRACI?
Also known around town as "Nanny Traci", I am a 30 year old female. I currently live in Myrtle Beach, SC, but I am originally from Southern California.
I began babysitting at the age of 13 for friends and family. When I was 16, I took on the responsibility of being a full time caretaker for my niece and nephew (ages 4 months & 2 years old at the time)...this lasted for 8 years and really solidified my career path. As a result of being a non-traditional "teenage mom", many things in my life have been somewhat backwards. For example, I graduated high school via home studies with 2 children playing at my feet. I was 21 before I had my first "traditional" (non-child care) job, and I didn't start college until the age of 27. Despite my non-traditional path, I am very happy with how far I've come in life, and I only hope to continue furthering my experience and education.
On a personal level, outside of work, I am a pretty easy going person. During my "off" time, I can often be found curled up in a chair reading at a local bookstore, sitting in a movie theater, or spending time with friends and family.
I paint on a weekly (sometimes daily) basis and I've recently begun selling some of my paintings, something I hadn't expected to do, and that was a huge confidence booster! Aside from painting, I enjoy cooking, baking, crafts, reading, kayaking, swimming, and traveling! I can regularly be found researching and/or planning potential trips. Whether it's a weekend getaway a few hours away, or three weeks traveling abroad, I love it all! Any opportunity that I have to explore the world, is an opportunity to grow as a person.
EXPERIENCE / EDUCATION:
I have 16+ years of experience working in child-care related fields including professional nanny, babysitter, mother's helper, volunteer, and business owner. I currently attend Liberty University via online courses and I am working on my Bachelors Degree in Early Childhood Education....I am considering adding a minor in Crisis Counseling or Christian Counseling. My coursework has included Positive Classroom Management, Child Development, and Child Psychology. In Fall 2013 I will complete courses in German and a special education course on behavioral problems. Over the past few years I've completed courses both in person and online for Infant Care, SIDS prevention, ABA therapy, CPR...etc. Some of my experience has included special needs such as asthma, milk allergies, preemie babies, toddler aged multiples, ADD, ADHD, PDD, and Asperger's Syndrome. I am always striving to educate myself in any area that is currently affecting my professional life.
I have had unique life experiences that allowed me to be a "parent" for a few years. Being both the caretaker and the person feeling the parental concerns has truly given me a unique perspective on caring for children and relating to families.
MY IDEAL NANNY-FAMILY:
I 100% respect the need for a family to hire a nanny. In some instances parents need to work and in other instances parents simply love to work. Hiring a nanny is a wonderful opportunity to give your child the feel of having an extremely interactive stay-at-home parent. A nanny is there to help teach, love, nurture, and care for your child! We kiss boo boos, give hugs, educate, support, attend school events, and play with your child! I believe firmly that although a nanny should remain professional and in control of her position as caretaker, she should also be part of the family. The nanny-child relationship can be one of love, respect, and friendship. Nannies do not replace parents, we are simply an extension of your love; offering support and guidance.
My ideal nanny family would consist of parents with similar parenting styles to my child-care philosophy. I do not want to work for a family that solely relies on nannies to raise their children 24/7. Instead, I prefer to be an additional, steady adult/caretaker in the child's life. I prefer to work for families who sincerely respect their children as the gifts that they are and who, outside of work, are very family oriented. It has been my experience that parents/nannies with differing parenting styles create confusion and room for manipulation in the eyes of the child. It becomes difficult for all involved. Having similar child-care philosophies is important because it helps to create a strong united front for the child. Having secure structure and boundaries helps build happy, respectful, and well-rounded individuals.
I hope to work for parents who are professional, yet relaxed and easy to communicate with. I am flexible with scheduling and I am open to working part time, full time, days, nights, weekends, overnight, one week on/off, travel nanny, temporary positions, night nanny nurses (to help w/ rocking & feedings)...etc. I am more than willing to travel for positions.
